Buzzard flutes
These flutes are simple, responsive and based on traditional NA woodlands flute designs. They are made from red or yellow cedars, have lathe-turned barrels and stylized bird or animal totem blocks. Most have raised nests, but some have flat or sunken nests to increase their sound versatility, and give a very traditional timbre and slight breathiness.
They are quite light in weight but very durable. The red cedar range is usually left undecorated, with the wood brought up to a finish that shows the graining to its best; the yellow cedar flutes are either plain, patterned with simple symbols using pyrography or have painted accents.
These flutes are available in keys from E to G# and are also excellent for beginners.
